Last January when one of our female goats gave birth at 4am in 20 degree weather, she rejected one of the two kids. The only way to save the poor creature was to bring him indoors immediately, get him under a heat lamp and heating pad, and then hand rear him. So that's what we did for the next two months - multiple daily bottle feedings, lots of cuddles, and accepting the fact that the carpet and sofa would have to be replaced! These photos are when he first ventured outside after it finally warmed back up. I'll be scrapping more of Bugs over the next few weeks
The original sketch got a little away from me but it's definitely still there! I really liked the horizontal 'bands' in the sketch and the two-photo format. Rather than the accents in the upper left I moved them to the lower right.

The papers are all scraps from older collections including Carte Belle Hello Again, Elle's Studio, MME Fly Away, Crate Paper, and more that no longer had the mfg strip. I also painted some embellishments including the two chipboard frames and three wooden hearts.
It was a perfect opportunity to dig into my supply of Project Life cards to use as layers in keeping with Shimelle's NSD 3x4 card challenge. Along the way I added some ink using an ampersand (&) mask, a polka dot stamp, and some gelatos on the edges of the background paper. And of course, stickers, tags, die cuts, flairs, enamel shapes, and any other embellishment I could find in the pink/seafoam color scheme.

Enjoy and thanks for stopping by!
I haven't made cards for ages!!! I used to make them frequently and just haven't been in the 'card mood' for the past year or so. But it's never too late to get back on the proverbial horse.
While the sketch had the border on the right side, I switched it to the left - for some unknown reason my brain just can't get around having it on the right!

All the papers are from Theresa Collins (Memories collection). The 'tags' are from two sheets from the 6x6 pad and I just cut each out to create the border. The title is a cut file from the Silhouette store.

Thanks for looking!
Today I'm adding pages to my "Garden" scrapbook using sketch #192 from Sketches in Thyme

We're trying a bit harder this year with the garden and have more than doubled the size to about 50x50. We did learn, though, that we were too eager to plant as we had two unexpected frosts in March that took a toll on the plants. Fortunately some survived but others had to be replanted. Of the ones that survived, the turnips were far and away the most successful despite it being traditionally an autumn veg. I'm looking forward to figuring out what to make with these tasty treats.

When we lived in England, one of our favorite things to do was drive in the country. We would go out for a day trip, a 3-day trip or a 3-week trip. It didn't matter - just give my husband a destination and map and he will find some of the most obscure routes to go and interesting stops along the way. Just make sure you aren't on a timeline!

One of the many excursions was a multi-day journey through southwest England including Exmoor. British moors are such a unique landscape with rolling hills, thistle, nettles, and all kinds of flora and fauna. One constant in nearly all the British moors tends are moor ponies. These are wild or semi-feral horses that are a bit shorter and fatter than a typical horse and quite friendly - while you may not be able to go up and pet them, they won't shy away from you either. The Exmoor variety is considered endangered. The day we were there we came across three including a foal. It was a precious site. I so miss living in England and having the opportunity to explore the ever-fascinating countryside.

One of my greatest regrets when it comes to family is that I am not close with my sister. Yes, we see each other every few years for big family events and occasionally comment on one another's Facebook posts but we have very little other contact. It has been this way for more than 50 years - literally since I was born. Things are improving but it is unrealistic to think we'll ever have a tight sister bond that one sees on TV. I take much of the blame as I have allowed my stubbornness and "principles" to get in the way of things - I am a Leo, after all. Regardless, I am proud of what she has accomplished and proud that she is who she is. While this may be polar opposite to me, the world only exists because of such diversity.

My relationship with my nieces is an unfortunate victim of this strained relationship. I do, though, keep up with what they are doing through my Mom and Facebook. It is not ideal but sometimes that is how life works out. No matter what, I am still very proud of them. They are beautiful girls who have had some rough times in their lives but they are strong and determined. With only a few exceptions, the only photos I have of them are from their social media pages. I hate using pictures from there as it feels like stalking but it enables me to still celebrate them. The photo I used her of one of my nieces is an example of this.

So my take away is that family is family. Distance - be it physical or emotional - should never prevent one from celebrating family. While you may not share your deepest secrets with each other and call each other every day or week (or year), they are still your family and you should trust that no matter what, they will come through when they need to.
I was fortunate having a client there for a few years in that I was able to visit frequently. And no trip to San Fran is complete without picking up the world's famous sourdough bread from Boudin on Fisherman's Wharf. It's an amazing place where you can see them make the bread, eat in the restaurant, and pick up a loaf (or three!). And they don't just make the standard sourdough shaped loaf - they have so many different shaped loaves from teddy bears to crabs, grape bunches and alligators, even turkeys for Thanksgiving! YUM!

To celebrate my last trip there, I created this layout using Sketch 197 for March Flashback Friday from ScrapbookChallenges.com. They have the greatest collection of sketches and I am so pleased I recently found them! I went very simple with this one forsaking all the embellishments I often add and using only a few layers. I used my Silhouette to try to emulate the actual Boudin logo name; the papers are an old My Minds Eye collection ("On the Sunny Side") as I continue to dig through my stash.
Thanks for stopping by!
She was so adorable but since we already had two dogs, two cats, two donkeys, five goats, and 20 chickens there was no way I was going to have us take on any more 4-legged responsibilities!

We spent the day trying to shoo it away. When that failed, we put it in a pen we had to at least keep it safe from the not-so-happy dogs and wary donkeys who free range the property. The idea was that we would put signs up and call the local shelter. After two days, no one responded to the signs and we were told that our area was notorious for people dumping off strays (and other people simply failing to neuter their dogs and not caring about the result). My husband being a tree hugger and 'save all the animals' kind of guy pleaded to let us keep her. My daughter joined in, of course. By this time, our adult dogs had gotten used to the puppy and even I was falling under it's spell. Needless to say, it became a part of our family and we've never regretted the decision for a second.

So the dog is now technically my daughter's (though all care is on my plate, of course). She loves nothing more than to cuddle with her and when she can cuddle AND use her phone at the same time it's heaven!

The design of this page is based on sketch 476 and the Chevron challenges from ScrapbookChallenges.com. I flipped the sketch and used three photos rather than two. The color scheme was based on the March '16 Disney challenge at ACherryOnTop.com.
It meant surgery, steel pins, and a two-week hospital stay with lots of physical therapy and lots of complaining from Mom since apparently she thought hospitals should have the same level of service as the Ritz Carlton. It also meant my dad needed an extra hand since, as often happens, he was a bit too reliant on my mom to cook, clean, etc. He's fully capable of doing it all - just spoiled!

So off I went to Florida to help everyone out. One would think my dad would be stressed out and worried with what my mom was going through. Instead, he was somewhat pleased since it meant he and I could go to his favorite Indian restaurant in Sarasota for good curry, guilt free since he rarely gets the opportunity (mom would rather have hospital food than a curry). The food there was amazing! I have had curry in so many places and in some of the best curry houses in the US, London and other places in England but I have to say that this non-descript place in a shopping center in Sarasota had the best korma I have ever had. We ended up going there three times in 10 days!

Mom recovered well but is still not willing to eat curry. I think Dad is secretly arranging an extended trip for my Mom anywhere so he can go back to the restaurant!

For the layout, I decided to use a pack of Project Life cards I got on clearance yet never used (Becky Higgins Project Life "Baby Edition for Him"). I don't do Project Life but I like using the cards for layering - I just wish they didn't have rounded corners. After all, One can always round corners of square cards but it isn't always easy to square off rounded corners without loosing patterns on the edges. Problems of the first world! For the border of the ivory paper, I used a cutting file I had that is intended to be used to weave a ribbon on the paper. after cutting it and starting to thread the ribbon, I thought the effect was too heavy but liked the punch outs nonetheless so the edge treatment stayed without the ribbon.
I know...we all say that about our spouse - after all, if they weren't we wouldn't be with them, right? So what makes him wonderful? He puts up with me! He is truly the yin to my yang in that I am a very hyper Type A perfectionist whereas he is laid back and just takes life as it comes. He is my anchor in that he keeps me in place and steady. Whilst one could interpret an "anchor" as something weighing you down, it is not meant that way in this case by any means. Or if it did, it is a weight in a positive sense in that when I fly off the handle, he makes a joke that brings me back down since his extreme whit forces me to laugh even though the joke is invariable at my expense. I love you, hon!

The design for this is based on another great sketch from Brenda Ragsdale at GrandDiva's Creative Corner for the March Sketch & Scrappy Friends Challenge. I am combining it with Rochelle Spear's This or That challenge to use either polka dots or chevrons - I used both - polka dots in one of the paper layers and chevrons as the bottom border. And the color scheme and "anchor" theme itself is inspired by the March Fashion challenge at ACOT. Papers are all from Authentique Glory collection. The cork letters are from Little Yellow Bicycle; cork anchor is Studio Calico; stickers are a variety of collections from Simple Stories SNAP!
I don't have any photos (yet) of my recent baking exploits but the other day I made a yummy batch of coconut macaroons. They were a little over cooked so not photo-worthy but yummy nonetheless. In playing around with baking, I was reminded of a time in 2010 when my daughter and I took a cake decorating class at a local Young Chef's Academy. My daughter took a number of classes there but this is one of the few times they did a mother-daughter event so I was thrilled to join in.

As for the layout, the design is based on a sketch from Let's Get Sketchy. Over the years, this blog has given me so much inspiration and I am pleased to 'rediscover' them as I re-enter the world of challenges. The bright colors of the layout are not my typical style but the photos screamed out for me to use some of the brighter 'princess' colored papers I had but toned down a bit with the plain white background. The papers include bright little hearts from Queen & Co ("Girl Hearts"), teal pattern paper from Echo Park ("Little Girl"), and the glitter Thickers ("Hooray"). I even pulled out my embossing machine to add texture to the white triangles in the corners as well as finding a few Project Life-type cards for the journaling. And that is another advantage to being unemployed - I cannot buy any new scrap supplies so I am forcing myself to dig through stash and rediscover so many things I forgot I had!
It hasn't been because I stopped scrapping - far from it! But as we all know, life frequently gets in the way of things and blogging was one activity that went by the way side over the past two years. The most significant change in our lives has been a move from the suburbs to the rural life of a 14-acre hobby farm. The other major change was my loosing my job six months ago but that's far more depressing to discuss than the farm so I'll stick to that for now! I'll start posting more about the farm in the coming weeks but in the meantime, I decided to post the latest spring happenings - the return of the birds.

This time of year we get literally hundreds of birds out our back of every variety - the typical cardinal, sparrow, and blue birds but also warblers, red-crested woodpeckers, great horned owls, and many more (many of which we have yet been able to identify). And like many areas, we get the black birds and grackles. Thankfully the onslaught of these is only occasional as I don't think I could handle the cacophony any more frequently. Despite the noise, I still appreciate the spectacle - after all, we moved out here to better appreciate all the amazing things that rural life brings, even if it sometimes feel Hitchcock-esque!

The layout for this was inspired by a Sketch+3 challenge at Scrap Our Stash that was a sketch plus three items from a list - I chose Graph paper (the tag on the left), Heidi Swapp (the tiny tags from a 2012 Tiny Tag pack), and Ivory (the background).

Thanks for looking!
I typically get bored with using a single paper collection over and over again but I can't get enough of this line! It is so perfect and there are even several papers that are non-Christmas so I know I will get a lot out of it! When I find I have a patterned paper that might be too bold to use on its own, I try to use it as a frame - I did this with two different papers in this layout. Give it a try - it's a great way of using papers that might otherwise sit neglected in your stash.
Each month she teams up with her "scrappy friends" - Rochelle Spears and Kristi B. I didn't combine the challenges into a single layout but you will see another layout today for Kristi's challenge

The papers are from Fancy Pants Merry Christmas and Little Sport lines. I also used some fun new products from recent haul from A Cherry on Top - Jillibean Soup Flashcards, My Minds Eye Cupids Arrow washi tape, and October Afternoon Daily Flash Frame Up chipboard frames. And to not neglect my stash, I pulled out some brads from MME Indie Chic, stickers from Dear Lizzy, and stick pins from Little Yellow Bicycle
We were staying in Little Tokyo and decided to walk around a bit hoping to at least find a 7-11 or something to get some kind of food. Tucked behind one of the side streets was a small shopping area that had a ramen noodle shop still open so we realized it was our best bet.

Well proper ramen noodles have no relation to the dried packaged type we lived on during college! This bowl was HUGE - it could have easily fed a family of 5 and still had leftovers. It was loaded with mushrooms and green onions (too many green onions!) and was really tasty. I think I finished less than 1/4 of it!

The layout design was based on a sketch from My Scraps & More (I have a big order from them scheduled to arrive today - sooooo excited). I did modify the sketch a little by converting the circles to squares (I just wasn;t feeling very "roundy" last night).

Papers are quite old and include several Sassafrass papers that I never thought I would use (got them as a door prize at a crop), EP Hello Summer, and EP Paradise Beach. I added some big brads from Bazzill, some chipboard word stickers from Micheal's, and a few homemade photo corners and punched hearts
I decided to print it black and white to create a softer layout. The sketch is from 2 Broke Girls - they have some of my all time favorite sketches!!!!
The photos are of the Space Shuttle Pathfinder on display at the US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama. It is a very cool place!
This one is the October Week 3 sketch.
The photos I used are of my daughter with wet hair getting clothes out of the car during our recent road trip. She was FURIOUS when she saw that I had followed her with the camera. With total disdain, her comment was "Really, Mom?" (She was even more angry when she saw that I had scrapped the photos. Oh well - that's life and it's getting scrapped!
